Century Lucifer showed his determination again on Monday (July 15) to win $140,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings at Woodbine Mohawk Park. An overflow field of 11 rookie male pacers competed in Monday’s second Gold leg of the OSS season. Opening leg winner Stonebridge Wizard went off as the even-money favourite, while the other first leg winner Century Lucifer went to the gate at odds of 6-1. Century Lucifer and driver Tyler Borth shot out from post five to grab command, posting a :27.2 opening-quarter. After getting an easy :29.3 second-quarter, Century Lucifer ramped things up as Stonebridge Wizard moved first-up from third with Sterling Choice spotted on his back second-over. After reaching three-quarters in 1:25.3, Century Lucifer was put under extreme pressure in the lane by Stonebridge Wizard and the far outside challenger Sterling Choice. Stonebridge Wizard appeared to edge ahead, but Century Lucifer dug in and fought back late to win by a head in 1:53.1. Sterling Choice finished just three-quarters of a length back in third, while Fifth And Five was fourth. A son of Shadow Play, Century Lucifer is trained by Rene Dion and has now won two in a row at the Gold level. His win on July 5 was a game effort, making multiple moves without any rest and winning by a neck. “I like him better off a helmet and they had asked me if I could be off a helmet tonight, but just the way the rest set up and had the middle of the gate,” said Borth about the trip for Century Lucifer. “They were actually ahead of me down the lane and my guy fought back on and dug in and beat them… “I just think he kind of waits on them on the front. He wears a blind bridle and when he could see (Stonebridge Wizard) in front of him I could feel him kick back into gear and I thought we had a shot.” A $25,000 London Classic purchase, Century Lucifer is owned by S&R Racing Stable, Marc Trudeau, SMS Ventures and M And L of Delaware. He’s now earned $119,420 in three starts. The time of 1:53.1 was a new career best. Century Lucifer paid $14.70 to win.

Canada's Horse of the Year for 2020, millionaire pacer Century Farroh has been retired and will stand at stud in 2022. In a press release issued on Monday (Nov. 15) Seel ster Farms officially welcomed the Breeders Crown winner to the farm's 2022 stallion line-up. Canadian born and bred by Century Spring Farms of Gorrie, Ont., the Mach Three – Beachy Girl horse was a multiple stakes winner at two including the OSS Grassroots elim and final in 1:53s, but it wasn’t until his three-year-old season that Century Farroh really began to shine. Century Farroh notched the biggest win of his career and provided another win for Canadian connections after lunging past favoured Bettors Wish late to win the $500,000 Breeders Crown Open Pace on Saturday (Oct. 31) at Harrah's Hoosier Park Racing & Casino. Sent off as the third choice at 7-1, Century Farroh was forwardly placed by driver David fMiller rom post seven and landed in the two hole behind Backstreet Shadow (Tim Tetrick). Backstreet Shadow fronted the field through fractions of :26.3 and :54.1 before coming under siege from an outer flow in the form of favoured Bettors Wish (Dexter Dunn) and second-over second choice Sectionline Bigry (Tyler Smith). As the older pacers hit the third quarter in 1:21.2 and turned for home, Bettors Wish started to wear down the pacesetter and took the lead in midstretch. Miller was able to angle Century Farroh down to the passing lane inside Backstreet Shadow, and with plugs pulled asked Century Farroh for an extra gear. Century Farroh responded willingly and got up past Bettors Wish to win by a half-length in 1:49. Backstreet Shadow stayed for third. "I wasn't real happy with the draw," driver Miller admitted in the winner's circle. "He'd been racing just fair, they added Lasix to him and he raced better his last start so I took a shot left, hoping to get away as close as I could and when I landed in the two hole I was pretty happy. "He didn't feel like he was loaded with pace but when I got him in the passing lane and got his earplugs out he actually took off and got there." Owned by Ratchford Stable NS of North Sydney, N.S., four-year-old Century Farroh (Mach Three - Beachy Girl) now sports a solid 4-4-4 summary from 15 starts with earnings of $1,420,525. The win also gives trainer Dr. Ian Moore his first Breeders Crown title. "It's very exciting and very good for one tough animal," Moore told Trot Insider. "I think he deserves it. And nobody wants to stand him stud...maybe they will now."
